Thick Vanilla Milkshake
Americans are one of the largest consumers of vanilla in the world and it’s a favourite flavouring used in baking, desserts, and drinks. Milkshakes originated in the States around the turn of the 20th century and became a common part of youth culture. Milk and ice-cream seem a strange accompaniment to a beef sandwich, but a burger and shake is an iconic pairing – the perfect balance of sweet and savoury.
Method
Put the ice-cream, milk and vanilla into a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Pour into 4 tall, chilled glasses and top with squirty cream and a cherry (if using).
Ingredients
- 300g vanilla ice-cream (straight from the freezer)
- 350ml cold milk (whole or semi-skimmed), more if you prefer it a little looser
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- squirty cream (optional)
- glacier cherry, to garnish (optional)
